The Michigan Strategic Fund board OKs nearly $8 million in state brownfield incentives for Dan Gilbert’s real estate company to redevelop the former Detroit Free Press  building on West Lafayette Boulevard, Kirk Pinho reports.

The board also gave a five-year extension for the $78.9 million mixed-use project, which gives Gilbert until 2021 to complete work, the Crain’s Detroit Business writer adds.

The project calls for 8,200 square feet of stores, 53,000 square feet for offices and 147 residences.
