Towing king Gasper Fiore, who had long been rumored to be bribing officials around town, is sentenced in federal court to 21 months for paying cash bribes to a Macomb County official for help with a towing contract.
“I know I committed a crime. And I am ready for my sentence and I apologize,” Fiore said Thursday afternoon before learning his term and being hailed off to federal prison, Tresa Baldas of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Fiore, 57, of Grosse Pointe Shores, pleaded guilty Dec. 20 to paying $7,000 in cash bribes to ex-Clinton Township Dean Reynolds to land a municipal towing contract with the township. Reynolds has been convicted in the case.
Fiore paid the bribes to Reynolds through trash executive Chuck Rizzo, who was cooperating with the FBI.
